Doctor visits:
May 22, 2002
Good news! The baby will be coming soon. Let me give you a quick run-down of the events that have happened so far...

Heidi went to her normal doc appointment today at 11:30. The doctor was out delivering a baby, so they had to reschedule her for later in the day. As it turns out, I had a dental appointment, so I decided to leave work a bit early, go to the doc with Heidi, and then go to the dentist from there.

While we were at the Ob/Gyn, Heidi's blood pressure was thru the roof. She hasn't had any problems like that at all, so the doctor was a bit concerned. She decided to send us to the hospital to monitor her and the baby, and to run a few tests. All of the tests came out normal, but her blood pressure was still too high. The baby's heart beat was strong, and very normal.

The doctor made the decision to induce labor, since Heidi would have had to come home, and lay on her left side for 2-3 days. Anyone who knows Heidi, knows that that's NOT going to happen. So, they've admitted her to the hospital, and as I speak (OK, type), they're giving her a drug that will kick-start the whole labor process.

So what does that mean to you? Well it means, that you're probably going to be an Uncle/Aunt/Grandma/Grandpa/<pick your own> very very soon. We should have the baby no later than tomorrow. I'm on my way back to the hospital, but I wanted to give you all an update.

May 15, 2002 38 1/2 weeks, the past couple of days I have been feeling some tightening in the stomach area. During my doctor visit today she confirmed that I am 1cm dilated, which means 2 things. 1. I have actually been having some contractions and 2. that the baby can arrive anytime between now and June. Ha news to me "-)  anyway, still no telling when it will happen. I am still 2 lbs under my weight prior to being pregnant and all is looking good. I am walking like a penguin most of the time now and still working away.  I was hoping to have the baby today for my sisters birthday, but I guess since it is now 10:15pm that is not going to happen.

May 8, 2002    37 1/2 weeks along. Doctor said I am doing well. I was full of questions for her this time. She was so nice to sit down until I went through my full list. I wanted to know about all procedures that are standard for this practice so I will know what to expect. She is very pleased with my progress. I have had no swelling of any limbs, excellent blood pressure and I even lost 5 lbs again. She is not worried at all about my weight, she still stands by the rule that I had some extra in storage to begin with.:-) Can't disagree with that. She said the baby will take whatever he needs from me. His heart rate was in the upper 130's and he seems to be well positioned for now.

May 1, 2002
I am now 36 1/2 weeks pregnant out of the 40. Can someone tell me how that adds up to 9 months? Anyway, I am now visiting the doctor every Wednesday until (labor day, birth day) the day. I didn't get to see the doctor today, as she was off delivering a baby at the hospital. The nurse checked me out and all is good. Blood Pressure 104/78, Iron was good and all other tests were passed with flying colors. The baby's heartbeat was at 144 today, he usually ranges from 137-154. Everyone at work keeps asking when am I due. I keep telling them I have the same rules as UPS, "please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery!" I am not uncomfortable, unless trying to sleep, so I am not in too big of a hurry. Any time in May is good for me, I just don't want to go after the due date.  That's it for this week.

April 23, 2002    Believe it or not I am just beginning to show in my 8th month. I had morning sickness pretty bad for the 1st 5 months and lost about 15 lbs. I am still 2 pounds shy of being at the weight I was before I was pregnant. Though my weight hasn't changed much, my shape has. My stomach is not sticking way out, but I do look like a blob. The doctors say everything is going well and that I should consider myself to be very lucky. It seems I may come out of this a little thinner than I started. Over the past few weeks it seems I have experienced everything in the book that "might" happen during pregnancy. (Leg cramps, sore back, sore gums, etc...) All is normal. My blood pressure has been really good, 118/75.

We had our last ultrasound on April 23rd. He is growing just fine. They estimated he weighed 2800grams or 6lbs 3oz on that day. We will have to wait and see...

Our little boy is a mighty active one, of course I have nothing to compare this to. Every day I get to feel him performing his calisthenics. It is always a pleasure, until he decides my ribs are in the way and kicks on them. I love it when I am reading a book, with it resting on my belly, and  when he kicks the book will bounce up.
